For the evening session:
- Avalanche handbook, handout package & Avaluator (provided at theory session)
- Notebook

For the field days:
Essential Equipment:
- Lift pass: $48 backcountry ticket available through Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau office (if you have a season's pass for Whistler/Blackcomb or Express Card you can use either instead)
- Touring skis; split snowboard; or, snowshoes and snowboard. Alpine Trekker touring bindings for alpine skis are acceptable if you are experienced with them. (Touring skis, skins, splitboards, snowshoes and poles are available for rent at a discounted rate from Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau).
- Boots - touring boots appropriate to your bindings. Regular alpine boots are acceptable as long as they are not a tight fitting boot
- Climbing skins for skis or splitboard
- Avalanche transceiver (Available for rent at a discounted rate from Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau)
- Shovel (Available for rent at a discounted rate from Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau)
- Probe (Available for rent at a discounted rate from Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau
- Daypack, approx 30 litres capacity (minimum) suitable for carrying all required gear. Snowboarders must have a pack that can hold a snowboard for the ascents
- Weatherproof shell jacket and pants - Goretex style
- Warm underlayers
- Gloves
- Winter hat/toque
- Goggles and/or sunglasses
Other items:
- Sunscreen
- Water (at least 1 litre)
- Lunch and snack(s): thermos with warm drink recommended
- Rite in the Rain notebook + pencil
- Personal items such as camera
Please review this list before the course to ensure that you are properly prepared. Contact us if you have any questions. Keep in mind that you will be spending all of your time outdoors in the snow in widely varying conditions conditions (+5 to -20), and that the weather can vary from one extreme to the other.
If you require rental gear, please ensure that you arrange this with us well in advance of your course date!
