Avalanche Skills Training Level II Equipment List
Recommended to Bring:
For the Theory Sessions:
- AST Level 2 textbook (provided by WAGB)
- Notebook
- Pen
- Snow study kit
For the Field Days:
- Lift pass for days that will be spent in the Whistler/Blackcomb backcountry ($45 backcountry tickets available)
- For skiers: skis with touring bindings & skins
- For snowboarders: splitboard & skins or snowboard & snowshoes (splitboard recommended for the AST 2 course)
- Ski or snowboard boots
- Poles with powder baskets
- Avalanche safety kit (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe)
- Snow study kit (including a loupe, crystal screen, digital thermometer or alchohol thermometer)
- Logbook with snow-profiles (Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain) - available for purchase at WAGB
- Rite in the Rain book
- Snow saw (optional)
- Backpack to carry it all
- Weatherproof shell jacket
- Warm layer(s)
- Warm hat, mittens/gloves
- Goggles and/or sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Water
- Thermos of warm liquid
- Lunch and snack(s)

Backcountry and avalanche safety equipment is available for rent directly through Whistler Alpine Guides at a discounted rate.
