Complete Ski Mountaineering Course

Gain the confidence and skills required to plan and accomplish your own multi-day ski expeditions in the Whistler Backcountry and beyond on this practical course. 5 days, 3 nights will be spent in the high alpine around Whistler with an ACMG guide and instructor learning and applying technical skills for ski mountaineering. Some topics include:

  • ski approaches and descents
  • avalanche awareness,
  • roped glacier travel
  • crevasse rescue
  • steep snow climbing
  • winter climbing systems
  • rappelling navigation
  • route finding
  • winter camping
  • multi-day trip planning

The last few days will be spent putting it all together with summit attempts and guided descents of peaks within the Spearhead Range. Participants must have some backcountry ski touring experience, be comfortable and confident in advanced terrain [black diamond runs] in a variety of snow conditions, and be physically fit to carry a multi-day pack. No mountaineering experience necessary. Skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers welcome.

+$48  backcountry lift pass available

+$35 powder touring ski/telemark ski rental available or $35.00 splitboard rental available

Details: 

Participants are to provide their own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, multi-day backpack, winter clothing, food and water for the course days.
